Alvernia University Athletics

Reading, Pa. (September 21, 2026) - Alvernia University (4-2) took down Penn State Hazleton (7-6), 3-0, in a non-conference women's volleyball matchup Monday night on the 21st night of September. 

The Golden Wolves opened the match with a 25-11 victory in set one but the Lions pushed back in set two but Alvernia still managed to grab the second set, 25-22. The Golden Wolves closed out the Lions with a 25-18 set three win to secure the sweep. 

How it Happened

• Alvernia and the Lions battled back and forth to start the first set before the Golden Wolves rattled off a 12-5 scoring run to take a commanding, 15-7 lead in the set. 
• The Golden Wolves then ended the set on a 10-4 stretch to take the 1-0 lead in the match after a 25-11 victory in the first set. 
• Olivia Jones led the Golden Wolves in kills in the first set with five, Allison Wolf followed with three and Olivia Rohrbaugh and Julia Lassandro added one each. 
• The Lions were the ones who pulled out to an early lead in the second set, a 7-5 advantage and even pushed it to as much as a 12-9 lead midway through the second set. 
• After an even split over the next 12 points, PSU Hazleton still maintained a three point, 18-15 lead over the Golden Wolves. 
• Shortly after an Alvernia timeout, the Golden Wolves answered back and ended the set with another 10-4 scoring run that was highlighted by a Wolf with four kills for Alvernia as they secured the 25-22 victory over the Lions in set two to take a 2-0 lead over the Lions in the match. 
• The Golden Wolves and the Lions traded points back and forth to start the third set before the Golden Wolves pulled ahead for a slight, 12-9 advantage. 
• PSU Hazleton then bounced back with an 8-5 scoring stretch to level the score at 17 a piece late in the third set. 
• The would be as close as the Lions would get as Alvernia ended the third set on yet another scoring run, this one an 8-1 stretch to secure the 25-18 victory in the third set and secured the sweep over the Lions. 

Inside the Box Score

• Allison Wolf led the Golden Wolves with 11 kills and also added two aces and seven digs. 
• Olivia VonNeida dished out a team high 21 assists, ten digs and tallied a team leading six aces on the night. 
• Olivia Jones hammered home eight kills and added seven assists and two aces. 
• Melina Stinsky and Caroline Buggy both recorded ten digs for the Golden Wolves and Olivia Rohrbaugh tallied three block assists and three aces.
