SELINSGROVE, Pa. (September 5, 2026) — On Saturday afternoon, the Alvernia University field hockey team (1-1) took down Susquehanna University (1-2), 2-0, on the road. This is the Golden Wolves' first win over the River Hawks since 2008. This win also marks the first of the season and the first collegiate win for head coach Cody Savitsky. The Golden Wolves were led by Ava Michael and Alessandra Stevens, who each scored a goal on the day.

In the first quarter, the Golden Wolves got off to a fast start and jumped ahead of the River Hawks, with junior Kelsy McClintock connecting with senior Ava Michael for a goal within the first two minutes of the game.

The second quarter turned into a battle of possessions, with both squads' defenses tightening up after the early goal. The Golden Wolves had two penalty corners taken by Sofia Mollura.

Despite the early push, the Golden Wolves weathered the storm and flipped the field against the River Hawks. Caroline Martin took a shot on goal, but it was saved by Susquehanna's goalie. Following two penalty corners and one shot from McClintock, Michael found Alessandra Stevens in the 36th minute for the second goal of the game, giving Alvernia a 2-0 lead.

The fourth quarter completely shifted the tone for the River Hawks. With their backs against the wall, they needed to apply pressure, and Susquehanna did just that, mustering up eight penalty corners and eight shots. However, good defense and five saves from Jazmin Mayfield kept the River Hawks in check, securing the 2-0 victory on the road.
