Alvernia University Athletics

Field Hockey Recruits

WHAT WE LOOK FOR IN A STUDENT-ATHLETE
We are looking for players who possess good academic standing, and a high level of tactical, technical, and athletic ability.  We also look for those student-athletes who possess our team core values of Commitment, Accountability, Positive Communication, Passion, Selflessness, and Hard work.

OUR RECRUITING PROCESS
We choose our team through the “recruiting process” and not through walk on tryouts during pre-season. If you are interested in our program, the following steps are recommended:
WE NEED TO SEE YOU PLAY
  • Attend an Alvernia ID Clinics:  These clinics are very helpful in the identification stages of recruiting. Our clinics provide an opportunity for players to train with and be seen by the Alvernia coach staff, see the campus, and get a feel for our program.  Reference our team website page for clinic information.
  • Send Schedules: Please keep us updated with your club tournament/showcase schedules and high school schedules. We will need the game schedule and include opponent, field number, and jersey color/number.
  • Send us Video Clips: Traditionally, we will want to see you play in a live setting but video highlights can be helpful for us to establish an initial feel for a player.
GET TO KNOW US
  • Come Watch Us Play: Come check out a game to see our level and style of play.  Do you see yourself playing with our team?  Be sure to notify us, if you will be attending a game so we can connect after the game.  If you are unable to attend a game in person, feel free to watch any of our home games live (see game schedule and click watch live video).
  • Come Visit Campus:  Let us know when you would like to visit our campus, so we can clear our schedule to meet with you.  Set up your visit with our Admission's Office at 610-796-8269, and let them know you would like to meet with the field hockey coaching staff. A visit will consist of a campus tour, a meeting with an Admission's counselor, and a meeting with the coaching staff.  You could time this visit with attending a home game, or watching a practice session, if it works for your schedule.

RECRUIT TIMELINE
  • We spend a majority of a student-athlete's junior year and the early stages of their senior year identifying and evaluating players to determine if we feel they would be a good fit for Alvernia. If Alvernia is one of your top choices, it is recommended:
Summer prior to your senior year-
  1. Complete the online Application (we accept the Common App)
  2. Submit your high school transcripts, and
  3. Submit SAT and/or ACT test scores
August- September of your Senior year - Acceptance to Alvernia should take place if all the above has been completed.
October 1st or soon after - Parents should complete the early FAFSA (must list Alvernia on the form)
November - You should receive the Financial Aid Package.
December -we finalize the offer of roster spots, and we like to finish up our recruiting class by March of your senior year.

If you are interested in Alvernia University and our field hockey program, you can begin the process by filling out our online prospect form, and sending a follow up email, and we will be in touch.
