Rich Gaynor

Coach Gaynor joined the Alvernia Baseball Staff in the 2015-2016 season.

Gaynor signed to the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980 in the 6th round straight out of Bullard High School in Fresno, California.  While he was drafted as an outfielder, Gaynor was converted to a pitcher in 1981.  After playing six years with Phillies organization reaching AAA, he signed as a free agent  with the Chicago White Sox in 1987.  Gaynor stayed with White Sox organization until 1988, when a severe knee injury ended his playing days. His career stops include Columbia, SA. Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Dominica, and Mexico. Gaynor was Inducted into the Reading Phillies Hall of Fame in 2003 as part of the 1983 team, where he went 13-3 and a 2.48 era.  He also tossed a no-hitter during that season.

After his playing career came to a close, Gaynor made his way into the coaching realm. Gaynor's coaching experience ranges from Little League to Legion. In addition to working with Alvernia, he is also the pitching coach for the Grand Slam Blue rocks travel program, which is a nine-time nationally ranked travel baseball program.

Gaynor currently lives with his wife of 32 years, Betsy, who is a speech therapist in the Daniel Boone School District and a graduate from Wyomissing High school and West Chester University. Gaynor has three children - Rachel and Megan, who are both teachers in Myrtle Beach, SC after attending Coastal Carolina University, and  Kyle is a senior pitcher at Alvernia.  All three are graduates of Wilson High School.
