Alvernia University Athletics

Football Assistant Coach

Richie Roman

Richie Roman joined Alvernia’s staff in 2026 as the special teams coordinator and defensive line coach following stops at Norwich University and Muhlenberg College. Roman spent one season at both Norwich and Muhlenberg as each program’s respective defensive line coach.

In 2024 at Muhlenberg College, Roman helped lead the Mules to a total of 33 sacks - which ranked them 24th in Division III. That same team ended the year with 24 tackles for a loss and produced an all-conference lineman in Keshon Davila.  The Mules had four games in which they held teams to under 100 rushing yards, including two games where teams finished with under 20 rushing yards.

The 2024 Mules won their MAC/Centennial Bowl game against Widener University’s, and Derek Rosenow, a defensive end for Roman, was named the bowl MVP with a three sack performance. Roman’s defensive line alongside Rosenow allowed just 13 rushing yards by the Pride.

Roman got his collegiate coaching career started at Lycoming College in 2023 as the Warrior’s defensive line coach. He coached two all conference selections. In 2023, Lycoming won the Cape Charles Bowl against Washington and Lee as part of an inaugural Chesapeake Challenge series with the ODAC and Landmark Conferences.

Roman is a 2021 graduate of Moravian College. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics and political science.
