Tom O'Connell

O'Connell was named Women's Golf Head Coach in 2009 and has been an assistant coach with the Men's Golf team since 2005. 

Under Coach O'Connell, the Women's Golf program has produced two MAC Championships (2012 and 2018) and the program's first trip to the NCAA Division III National Championsip in 2018 at Mission Inn in Howie in the Hills, Florida. Alvernia Women's Golf has also earned three MAC Player of the Year recipients, and Coach O'Connell earned MAC Coach of the Year honors in 2012 and 2018.

Coach O'Connell has also worked as a professional tour caddie for Deb Richard on the LPGA tour in 1997-98. Other notable golf career stops include Caddie Master at Pablo Creek Golf Club in Jacksonville, Florida (1997-99) and Stonewall Golf Club in Eleverson, Pennsylvania (2006-2009). O'Connell was responsible for producing the first versions of yardage books for Stonewall's Old Course and North Course.

In addition to golf, O'Connell was involved with the inception of the Men's Ice Hockey in 2002 at Alvernia. He coached the program from 2002-2016, guiding it into the Delaware Valley College Hockey Conference while part of the greater American College Hockey Association. Under O'Connell, Men's Ice Hockey had four straight appearances in the ACHA Atlantic Regional Playoffs.

O'Connell graduated from Alvernia College in 1995, and during his time as a student-athlete he played as the #1 for the varsity golf team his senior year. He was awarded team MVP in 1994-95, and was selected to the PAC All-Academic team for the winter/spring 1995 season. O'Connell is a 1986 graduate of Downingtown Senior High School after playing #1 his senior year. He was named to the All-Chesmont second team in 1985 after being a member of the Champion Golf Team. He also led the 1983 Chesmont team to an undefeated season.
