Reading, Pa. (October 10, 2007) – Alvernia College improved their record to 3-2-1 in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference this afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Neumann College (6-4-3, 2-2-1 PAC). Junior Goalkeeper
Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) made six saves for the Crusaders to register his second shut out of the season.
Alvernia dominated the first half and got on the board in the 26th minute when Michael Colozzi (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin) drilled and point blank shot at the goalie and freshman
Morgan Davidheiser (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) quickly put the rebound into the back of the net for the only goal of the day. Davidheiser now sits second in the PAC with ten goals. The Crusaders out shot the Knights from Neumann 7-2 in the first half, but the Knights held the advantage in corner kicks 3-2.
Despite being down 1-0 entering the second half, Neumann continued to battle in the second half, out shooting the Crusaders 8-2 and holding the 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Kessler made all but one of his saves in the second half to secure the shut out.
Alvernia will return to action this Saturday at 1:00 pm when they travel to Eastern University in a rematch of the 2006 PAC Semi-final game which Alvernia won on PKs (6-5).
