Diggs Shows Versatility At Neumann

Senior Saves Two, Scores One In 3-1 Loss

BOX SCORE

Aston, Pa. (Oct. 10, 2007) – Alvernia College senior Laura-Beth Diggs (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) played 65 minutes in net and made two saves and 25 minutes in the field and scored once in a 3-1 loss at Neumann College Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Neumann.

Neumann opened the scoring in the fifth minute and built a 2-0 lead with a second goal in the 36th minute. The Knights (4-10-1, 4-4 PAC) took the 2-0 lead into halftime despite being outshot 7-5 in the opening frame and Alvernia (6-7-2, 3-4 PAC) having all four first-half corners.

Alvernia continued to press for the first 20 minutes of the second half until Diggs was moved to the forward line to bolster the offense. The move paid dividends in the 82nd minute when the Crusaders cut the deficit in half on Diggs' goal set up by Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's Catholic).

The Crusaders continued to push forward looking for the equalizer, but it was Neumann, on Casey Geary's second goal of the day in the 86th minute, who scored the next goal and took the 3-1 win.

Alvernia will continue its modest three-game road trip at Eastern University this Saturday.
