St. Davids, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2007) – Eastern University scored three straight goals late in regulation to earn a 3-0 win over Alvernia College Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Eastern.
The score remained scoreless into the 70th minute of play until Eastern's Jill DeRenzo netted her 16th goal of the season and first of two on the day. DeRenzo set up teammate Nicole Grindle in the 73rd minute for a 2-0 lead and scored her second of the day with under four minutes to play.
Alvernia (6-8-2, 3-5 PAC) held its ground defensively through much of the game getting seven saves from freshman Kirsten Kelly (Kirkwood, Pa./Bishop Shanahan). The Eagles (12-3, 8-0 PAC) held a 22-4 advantage in shots and a 9-2 lead in corners.
Alvernia's playoff hopes are still alive with a trip to Cabrini and a home game with Gwynedd-Mercy still on the schedule. The Crusaders head to Radnor next Wednesday to take on the Cavaliers.
