Crusaders Fall To Swarthmore

Swarthmore Scores In The Third Minute And Never Looks Back

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (October 17, 2007) – Alvernia College dropped a non-conference game to visiting Swarthmore College (9-2-3) this afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field.  The Crusaders managed the equalizer after they saw Swarthmore jump ahead 1-0 in the third minute of the game, but couldn't find the net again as Swarthmore won 3-1.

The Garnet of Swarthmore got on the board quickly when Dylan Langley (Honolulu, HI/Iolani) redirected a goalie clear attempt for his first goal of the season. The Crusaders answered in the 12th minute with the equalizer from freshman Morgan Davidheiser (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) assisted by senior Kyle Keller (Mount Penn, PA/Antietam). The 1-1 tie would remain for only a short time as Swarthmore would go ahead again 2-1 when Langly connected for his second goal of the season. The Garnet would add their third goal in the 70th minute when Evan Nesterak (Parker, CO/Ponderosa) was assisted by Morgan Langley (Honolulu, HI/Iolani) for his third goal of the season.

The Crusaders were out shot 24-8 and Swarthmore managed 12 shots on goal to Alvernia's 5. Junior goalie Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) kept Alvernia in the game with nine saves, six in the second half.

Alvernia returns to action this Saturday at homecoming weekend against Gwynedd-Mercy at 3:00 pm in a conference game with playoff implications.
