Reading, Pa. (October 20, 2007) – Alvernia College improved their Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Record to 10-0, and their overall record to 14-4 with this afternoon's 10-0 win over visiting Marywood University (4-11, 3-6 PAC). Prior to the game Alvernia honored their six graduating seniors;
Dawn Beiswenger (Denver, PA/Garden Spot),
Laura Bilger (Reading, PA/Governor Mifflin),
Shayna Clark(Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley),
Amber Landis (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata),
Lynsey Treadwell (Farmingdale, NJ/Hopewell) and
Lauren Yoder (Fleetwood, PA/Oley Valley).
Sophomore forward
Janelle Lynch (Macungie, PA/Brandywine Heights) got Alvernia on the board less than four minutes into the game when she received the corner pass from Landis and drilled one into the back of the net. Lynch added her second goal of the game less than ten minutes later when she recovered Treadwell's rebound to put the Crusaders up 2-0.
Alvernia would add two more goals before halftime when
Kaitlin Prutzman (Hamburg, PA/Hamburg) was assisted by Lynch for her seventh goal of the season in the 24th minute of the game, followed by freshman
Christy Yousaitis (West Lawn, PA/Wilson) placing a shot just to the right of the goalie to put Alvernia up 4-0 heading into halftime. The Crusaders outshot Marywood 22-1 in the first half and held the advantage in corners 17-1.
Junior
Christy Miller (Alburtis, PA/Brandywine Heights) scored the second half's first two goals for her ninth and tenth tallies of the season. The Crusaders would add four more goals, including two from Beiswenger before the game's end for the 10-0 victory. Alvernia goalie
Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) needed only one save in the entire game to secure her PAC leading seventh shut out of the season.
Alvernia faces #11 Rowan College in non-conference action next Saturday at Rowan at 7:00 pm.
