Alvernia Drops Final Game

Crusaders Held Scoreless By Gwynedd-Mercy In Final Game Of The Season

Reading, Pa. (October 20, 2007) – The Alvernia College Women's soccer season came to a close on Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 loss to Gwynedd-Mercy (4-9-4, 4-4-2 PAC). Alvernia ends their season at 6-9-3, 3-6-1 PAC) and will not advance to the PAC playoffs.
 
The first half saw both the Crusaders and the Griffins battle to a 0-0 tie with Alvernia managing only one shot to Gwynedd-Mercy's six. Crusader goalie Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, PA/Bishop Shanahan) needed five of her eight saves in the first half to hold Gwynedd-Mercy scoreless. Alvernia held the advantage in corner kicks 2-0 in the first half.
 
Gwynedd-Mercy finally broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute when freshman forward Maria Bailey (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) was assisted by Meghan Vole (Warminster, PA/Archbishop Wood). The Griffins held off the Alvernia offense for the rest of the game to secure the 1-0 victory.
