Alvernia Tops Gwynedd-Mercy 3-1 To Secure Place In PAC Playoffs

Reading, PA (October 25, 2007) - Alvernia recovered from a slow start to defeat visiting Gwynedd-Mercy (8-19, 5-6 PAC) in a gritty match this evening in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference volleyball action.  The Griffins took the first game 30-20, but Alvernia (9-13, 6-5 PAC) battled back to take the next three; 30-26, 30-21 and 30-24 to secure a spot in the PAC playoffs.  With the win the Crusaders will await their fate as the #5 or #6 seed pending Centenary College's final PAC match.

The Crusaders were led by senior Amy Sikorski (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) who tallied 18 kills and added eight digs.  Junior Jenn Stigura (Barto, PA/Central Catholic) had seven kills and 10 digs.  Freshman Leah Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) added 33 assists.  

Alvernia will hit the road for PAC quarterfinal action Tuesday, October 30.
