Hat Trick For Davidheiser In Crusader Victory

Alvernia Evens PAC Record to 2-2

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (October 3, 2007) – Alvernia College got back on the winning track this afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Pennsylvania Athletic Conference foe Centenary College at Schlager Memorial Field. Despite falling behind 1-0 in the first half, the Crusaders netted four goals in the second half, including three from freshman Morgan Davidheiser (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) to improve their PAC record to 2-2. With the loss, Centenary falls to 5-6, 0-3 in the PAC.

The match-up between the Crusaders (4-8, 2-2 PAC) and the Cyclones from Centenary proved to be a tale of two halves. The first half saw Centenary outshoot the Crusaders 12 to eight, earn six penalty corners to Alvernia's zero and take a 1-0 lead into half time. The Cyclones lone goal was scored by junior Chris Hill (Flanders/Gill St. Benard's) for his sixth goal of the season; he was assisted by sophomore Chris Guadagno (West Milford/West Milford).

The second half would be a much different story. Davidheiser scored his first goal of the game less than a minute into the second half when he carried the ball through the box and fired off a shot into the lower right corner to tie the game. Ten minutes later he found a rebounded shot and laced it into the top left corner. Davidheiser would score again in the 73rd minute, and freshman Tim Sweeney (Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) netted his second goal of the season to put Alvernia up 4-1 in the 84th minute. The Crusaders dominated the second half, out shooting Centenary 13-4 and requiring only two saves from goalkeeper Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading). Kessler had eight saves in the first half for 10 saves on the day.

The Crusaders will travel to Immaculata on Saturday afternoon and look to bring their PAC record above .500 for the first time this season.
