Reading, Pa. (October 4, 2007) – Alvernia College Senior
Brandi Light (Myerstown, PA/Tulpehocken) shattered the career record for both goals and points in Alvernia's 3-2 loss to Arcadia this afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field. Light passed Sarra Hager ('03) as she scored her 33rd career goal for a career total 77 points. Light remains two assists away from breaking the career assists record.
Arcadia University (9-2-1) did all of their damage in the first half, scoring all three of their goals before the Crusaders (5-6-2) found the net. Senior Danielle Discher (Phil. HS For Girls/Philadelphia, PA) scored less than seven minutes into the game for her second goal of the season. Fellow senior Patty Rob (St. Hubert's/Philadelphia PA) scored her second goal of the season as well when she headed in an Arcadia corner kick. Arcadia added one more in the 35th minute for a 3-0 lead.
Alvernia finally got on the board when Light scored her record-breaking goal, as she found a rebound and redirected it into the upper left corner in the 42nd minute to close the gap to 3-1 heading into halftime.
The Crusader defense shut down Arcadia's attack in the second half, and brought the score within one goal as freshman
Patricia Lapinsky (Magnolia, DE/St. Thomas Moore) connected for her first goal of the season as she headed in a perfect pass from
Casey Weber (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan).
Alvernia will return to Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action as they travel to the College of Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm.
