Davidheiser Tallies 12th For Crusaders

BOX SCORE

Dallas, Pa. (Nov. 1, 2007) – Top-seeded Misericordia University broke a 2-2 tie with three second-half goals in a 5-2 win over #4 Alvernia College Thursday afternoon in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Championship Men's Soccer Semifinal at Mangelsdorf Field.

Misericordia (13-4-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals in the 23rd and 25th minutes. Junior forward Tyler Mensch tallied the first and assisted Max Campbell on the second. Alvernia freshman Morgan Davidheiser (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) drove home a feed from Tim Marcinek (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle) in the 41st minute as the Crusaders (5-12-3) were able to cut the deficit in half heading into the halftime break.

The guests finished the comeback with the tying goal just a minute into the second half when Misericordia keeper Andrew Loyd couldn't handle a ball sent into the box and it slipped into the cage for a 2-2 score.

The teams played scoreless for nearly the next 20 minutes before Mensch set up Joey Scanlon in the 65th minute with what proved to be the game-winner. Joseph DiGirolomo scored unassisted 10 minutes later for a 4-2 lead and closed the scoring in the 78th minute assisted by Scanlon.

Alvernia junior Richard Kessler (Reading, Pa./Reading) and Loyd both finished with four saves on the day.

Misericordia will host #2 Eastern University on Saturday at 1:00 in the PAC Final. The Eagles dispatched #3 seed Cabrini College, 4-0, in the other semifinal on Thursday.
