Alvernia Right At Home In 3-1 Win

Lush And Davidheiser Provide Offense

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2007) – Freshman forward Morgan Davidhesier (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) scored once and assisted sophomore Adam Lush (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) on two scores as Alvernia bettered Haverford 3-1 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Schlager Memorial Field.

It was the home-opener for Alvernia (2-5) in the seventh game of the season and junior goalie Richard Kessler (Reading, Pa./Reading) set the tone early for the hosts stoning Haverford on a few short-range efforts. At the other end Alvernia opened the scoring when Davidhesier hit a ball off the Haverford keeper that Lush slowly rolled into the open net in the 10th minute.

Kessler made the one-goal lead stand into halftime recording five of his seven saves before the break. Both teams managed eight shots in the opening frame, but it was only Lush who found the back of the net.
Davidheiser padded the Alvernia lead with an unassisted goal in the 68th minute, his third of the season pushing his scoring streak to three games. Four minutes later a Davidheiser pass found Lush's foot again and the sophomore forward nearly blew the open netter, but his effort caromed off a Fords defender and into the net for a 3-0 lead.

Haverford spoiled the shutout bid in the 77th minute when junior captain Eric Kissinger hit a slicing shot from the top of the box off the inside of the right post to cut the gap to 3-1.

Alvernia finished with an 18-13 lead in shots and 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Two Haverford keepers combined to make six saves. The Crusaders improved to 3-1-1 in the all-time series with Haverford.

Alvernia will travel to Misericordia University on Saturday for a conference match with the Cougars.
