Light Ties Record With Eight Points

Crusaders Blank Cedar Crest, 5-0

BOX SCORE

Allentown, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2007) – Senior forward Brandi Light (Myerstown, Pa./Tulpehocken) tied a school record with eight points scoring three goals and two assists as Alvernia College notched its second shutout in as many days and third straight with a 5-0 win over Cedar Crest College Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women's soccer action at Cedar Crest.

Light tied the single game points record held by Sarra Hager ('03) who tallied four goals in a 6-0 win over Immaculata University on Nov. 20, 2000. Light scored the first three goals of the game assisted twice by freshman Stephanie Loftus (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and the third on a pass from freshman Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St Hubert's).

With the hat trick under her belt, Light set out to set up her teammates recording her first assist of the game on Alexandra Stengel's (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) first of two goals as the Crusaders built a 4-0 first half lead. The next assist waited until after halftime when Light slotted a ball through to Stengel again and the freshman beat the Falcons' keeper to the corner and a 5-0 lead.

Senior keeper Danielle Fitzpatrick (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) needed eight saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. She has recorded 299 consecutive shutout minutes.

Head coach Bill Bonewitz credited the depth of his bench for helping Fitzpatrick notch the Crusaders' fifth shutout of the season in just eighth games. “Angela Gibson (Auburn, Pa./Schuylkill Haven) and Sipple really controlled the midfield, and the bench stepped up and played very well,” said Bonewitz.

That level of play will need to continue as the Crusaders get just two days of rest before facing Misericordia University on Saturday at Schlager Memorial Field. The Cougars were ranked second in the PAC preseason poll and enter the weekend with a 3-4-1 overall record.
