Alvernia Comeback Betters Eastern

Treadwell Scores Game-Winner With 3:00 To Play

St. Davids, Pa. (Sept. 22, 2007) – Senior forward Dawn Beiswenger (Denver, Pa./Garden Spot) scored a pair of second half goals and senior Lynsey Treadwell (Farmingdale, N.J./Howell) capped off the comeback late in regulation as Alvernia College overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit for a 3-2 win over Eastern University Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference field hockey action at Eastern.

The host Eagles (6-3, 4-1 PAC) got a pair of first-half goals from Jamie Woods and Jamie Heck to jump out the early lead. Woods scored in the 15th minute unassisted and Heck tallied in thee 22nd minute also unassisted. All stats other than score were even through the first 35 minutes with both teams posting three shots, one save, and a penalty corner. Alvernia freshman Ashley Tatangelo (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) kept the Crusaders within striking distance with a first-half defensive save.

The Alvernia offense turned it around in the second frame outshooting Eastern 9-3 and earning nine penalty corners after the break. Beiswenger took advantage of two penalty corners scoring the Crusaders' first goal three minutes into the second half assisted by Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine Heights).

Senior Amber Landis (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and Lynch set up Beiswenger for the game-tying goal again on a corner 14 minutes later. With three minutes left in the game it was Tatangelo stepping in to set up Treadwell for the game-winner as the Crusaders prevailed in a match-up of the last two conference finals.

Junior goalie Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) made four saves to earn the win.

Alvernia won the 2005 final at home in overtime and Eastern, the 2007 preseason favorite, earned a 2-0 win in the 2006 final.

Alvernia will continue the conference schedule hosting Cedar Crest on Thursday.
