Crusaders Fall To Richard Stockton

Defense Struggles As Alvernia Falls 11-0

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (September 24, 2007) – Alvernia College's overall record fell to 2-7 with an 11-0 loss to Richard Stockton College (5-3-1) this afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field. The Crusaders played even with the Ospreys of Richard Stockton until the 29th minute when Stockton freshman Rafael Duarte (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) was successful on a penalty kick opportunity.

The successful penalty kick not only put Stockton up 1-0, but also seemed to reverse the momentum of the game that had up until that point been held by Alvernia. The Ospreys would strike again in the 34th and 40th minute to give them a comfortable but not insurmountable lead at half time. Stockton wasted no time getting back on the board in the second half, scoring their fourth goal of the game less that two minutes into the second half when sophomore Sean McCallum (Vineland, NJ/Vineland) found the back of the net, assisted by senior Matt Lewis (Bear DE, Glasglow). Stockton added three more goals in a ten minute span, and another three goals in a five minute span. Their final goal came in the 82nd minute.

Stockton out shot Alvernia 21-6 and also held the advantage in corners 4-0.

Alvernia will return to action on their home field on Wednesday in a conference match-up against Marywood at 4:00 pm
