Alvernia Wins Sixth Straight

Crusaders Cruise Past Cedar Crest

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2007) – Alvernia College got goals from 12 different players in a 14-0 win over Cedar Crest College Thursday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

Seniors Lynsey Treadwell (Farmingdale, N.J./Howell), Shayna Clark (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley), and Amber Landis (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) each scored their fourth goal of the season in the opening six minutes and the Crusaders (7-2, 4-0 PAC) cruised to a 10-0 halftime and their sixth straight victory.

The next three goals for the hosts were all the first of the year for sophomore Jamie Reiger (Blairstown, Pa./North Warren Regional), junior Allison Hoffa (Reading, Pa./Central Catholic), and freshman Kaitlin Prutzman (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg).

Junior Christy Miller (Alburtis, Pa./Brandywine Heights) was next with her third goal of the year in the 22nd minute, and Reiger and Prutzman followed with their second goals of the game. Sophomore forward Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine Heights) blasted home her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 33rd minute to close the first-half scoring.

Alvernia senior Dawn Beiswenger (Denver, Pa./Garden Spot) netted her fourth goal of the year 25 minutes into the second half and sophomore Jackie Guignet (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and freshmen Leslie Michael (Zionsville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and Christy Yousaitis (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) closed the scoring with their first career goals.

Alvernia junior Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) made one save in the final minute of play to record her second shutout of the season. Her counterpart Rachel Orlen stopped 21 in net for the Falcons (0-10, 0-6 PAC).

Lynch, Beiswenger, and senior Lauren Yoder (Fleetwood, Pa./Oley Valley) each tallied two assists on the day for the Crusaders who enjoyed a 43-1 advantage in shots and 22-2 lead in corners.

Alvernia will continue the conference schedule at Neumann College on Saturday.
