Camden, N.J. (Sept. 7, 2007) – Rutgers-Camden scored twice in the second half to take a 2-0 win over Alvernia College Friday evening in game two of the Cialella Men's Soccer Classic hosted by RCU.
Both teams played fairly even in the first half with the host Scarlet Raptors holding a slight 6-5 advantage in shots. Alvernia junior
Richard Kessler (Reading, Pa./Reading) made four of his seven saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless at the halftime break.
RCU finally broke through early in the second half when Onur Yilmaz found the back of the net in the 48th minute. The Raptors struck again in the 66th minute for a 2-0 lead and held on for the victory.
RCU finished the game with an 18-9 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corners. Eastern University scored a 1-0 victory over Villa Julie in game one of the classic. Alvernia and Ville Julie will face off in the first game on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Alvernia won the 2006 Cialella Classic with a 2-1 win over RCU and a 5-0 win over Delaware Valley. The Crusaders will play twice more on the road against Cabrini and Elizabethtown before starting the home schedule on Sept. 18 against Haverford College.
