Crusaders Post 4-2 Win Over DeSales

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 8, 2007) – Junior forward Christy Miller (Alburtis, Pa./Brandywine Heights) scored twice and assisted on another goal as Alvernia College more than doubled its season total in goals with a 4-2 win over DeSales University Saturday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia.

The 20th ranked Crusaders (2-2) opened the scoring in the 13th minute when senior Lynsey Treadwell (Farmingdale, N.J./Howell) scored unassisted. The Bulldogs (2-2) wasted little time leveling the match as sophomore Meghan Iudicello found the back of the cage 50 seconds later.

Miller assisted senior Amber Landis (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) in the 27th minute and Alvernia, which posted an 11-2 advantage in the first half, took a 2-1 lead to the break. DSU goalie Molly Pope made six of her eight saves in the opening frame.

Miller scored her first goal of the match 10 minutes into the second half for a 3-1 cushion, and added another unassisted in the 69th minute after DeSales senior Ashley Sparango had pulled the guests within one in the 64th minute.

Alvernia junior Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) made three saves in net for the Crusaders. Alvernia finished with a 20-7 advantage in shots and penalty corners were even at six apiece.

Alvernia improved to 4-0 all time against the Bulldogs and will open the conference schedule on Thursday hosting Gwynedd-Mercy College in a 4:00 game.
