BOX SCORE

Dallas, Pa. (Oct. 11, 2008) - Misericordia University (9-4, 2-1) scored three goals in the second half to jump out to a 4-1 lead and held off a late challenge from Alvernia University (6-5, 1-1) in a 4-3 win Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference field hockey action at Mangelsdorf Field.

Misericordia scored the only goal of the first half, opening the game on a penalty corner goal in the 18th minute.

Alvernia answered just 28 seconds into the second half when sophomore Kaitlin Prutzman (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) scored her first of two on the afternoon, but the Cougars answered that with three goals in an eight minute span to take a commanding three-goal lead with 16 minutes left to play.

Alvernia cut the gap to two when Prutzman set up sophomore Christy Yousaitis (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) with just over a minute to play.  Prutzman then scored 35 seconds after the restart, but the Crusaders ran out of time to complete the comeback.

Alvernia senior Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) made eight saves for the Crusaders while Ellen Howanitz stopped seven at the other end.

Alvernia will return home to face Eastern University on Tuesday in a game with a pink theme that will raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer.
