Wilkes Gets Win With Hallowell Hat Trick

Alvernia Falls To 1-3 In Freedom Conference

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 18, 2008) - Wilkes University (6-9-1, 2-2) sophomore Taryn Hallowell scored two of her three goals on the day in the second half as the Colonels topped Alvernia University (6-8, 1-3) 3-1 Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference women's soccer action at Sovereign Bank Sports Park.

Alvernia scored first with a goal from Kate Wimberg (Galloway, N.J./Sacred Heart) in the first minute of play on a shot that rebounded off the crossbar.  The Crusaders held the lead for 40 minutes until Hallowell tallied her first of the day with just over four minutes left in the first half.

Hallowell struck again seven minutes into the second half and added the insurance goal in the 78th minute.

Alvernia split time in net betwee sophomore Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) who made six saves and freshman Kristin Mantle (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford) who recorded one save in 11 minutes.

Alvernia will be at Eastern University on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
