BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2008) - Junior Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine Heights) scored twice and freshman Katy Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) once as both reached 10 goals on the season in a 5-1 win for Alvernia University (8-7) over crosstown rival Albright College (3-12) in non-conference field hockey action at Shirk Stadium.

Alvernia scored first in the ninth minute on Kaitlin Pruztman's (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) fifth goal of the season and went up 2-0 when sophomore Ashley Tatangelo (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) tallied her fourth of the season on the first of two assists by sophomore Christy Yousaitis (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) in the 16th minute.

Lynch rang home her first of the game and ninth of the season less than two minutes later once again set up by Yousaitis to put the Crusaders up 3-1 and Albright tallied the final goal of the first half to hit the break facing a 3-1 deficit.

Alvernia held an 8-1 advantage in shots through the first 35 minutes and both teams had two penalty corners in the first half.

Lynch wasted little time reestablishing the three goal cushion when Eby set her up just 19 second after the halftime break, and Eby tallied unassisted in the 50th minute to close the scoring.

Alvernia finished with a 14-3 edge in shots and a 6-2 lead in corners.  Senior Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) finished the game with two saves, both in the second half, and freshman Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) didn't face a shot in 17 minutes.

Lynch and Eby both sit atop the team standings in goals with 10 while Eby has a team-best seven assists and 27 points.

Alvernia, 2-2 in the Freedom Conference, plays an important game at King's College this Saturday.  Alvernia currently sits in the fifth and final playoff spot with four conference games to go, just one game ahead of three other teams.
