Alvernia Drops Heartbreaker At King's

Monarchs Score Twice In 25 Seconds

BOX SCORE

Scranton, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2008) - King's College (3-13-1 1-5) scored twice in a 25 second span with under four minutes to play to steal a 4-3 win from Alvernia University (6-11, 1-5) Saturday morning in Freedom Conference women's soccer action at King's.

Alvernia took its first lead when freshman Sara Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) set up classmate Kate Wimberg (Galloway, N.J./Sacred Heart) in the sixth minute.  King's answered back with goals in the 17th and 24th minute to take a 2-1 lead, but Alvernia scored on a King's own goal in the 37th minute to knot the score at 2-2.

The score remained 2-2 into halftime and well into the second half until Alvernia broke through with under seven minutes to play.  A King's foul set up Alvernia with a free kick and Kate McCaffrey (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) found Amy Mesce (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) who headed in the go ahead goal.

King's tied the game for the second time with a goal at the 86 minute mark and 25 seconds after the ensuing kickoff the Monarchs were able to net the game-winner.

Alvernia will host Delaware Valley on Wednesday.
