Alvernia Tops Berks In Tri-Match Opener

Albanesius Paces Crusaders With Six Kills

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 4, 2008) - Alvernia University (3-12) won the opener of its own tri-match Saturday morning, 3-0 over Penn State-Berks (7-7) in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Physical Education Center.  Freshman Gabrielle Albanesius (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy) paced the way for the offense with six kills.

Alvernia cruised to a 25-14 win in the opening set with Albanesius going 2-for-2 on swings.  The Crusaders posted a 25-15 win in set two led by freshman middle Alyssa Solits (Allentown, Pa./Parkland), and junior Laura Hetke (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) had a team-best four kills in the deciding set with Alvernia winning 25-16.

Sophomore setter Leah Crimi (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) handed out 17 assists in three sets while older sister Lauren Crimi (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) paced the defensive efforts with nine digs.

Penn State-Berks will take on Cedar Crest in the middle match of the day and Alvernia will return to the court to cap off the day playing Cedar Crest.
