Alvernia Stuggles In 3-1 Loss At FDU

Sippel Scores Third Goal For Crusaders

Florham, N.J. (Oct. 4, 2008) - Alvernia University (5-6, 1-1) managed just seven shots and one goal in a 3-1 loss at FDU-Florham (5-7, 1-1) Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference women's soccer action at FDU.

Alvernia sophomore Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) scored her third goal of the season to cut a 2-0 Devils' lead in half, but the hosts netted an insurance goal with 10 minutes to play evening both team's records at 1-1 in conference.

FDU opened the scoring with a goal in the 28th minute and went up 2-0 on a tally in the 35th minute.

Alvernia sophomore Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) made 10 saves in net to keep the Crusaders close.  FDU used a pair of goalies who combined for four saves.

Alvernia will return home to host Penn State-Berks on Monday in non-conference action.
