Cabrini Sneaks Past Alvernia In Overtime

Radnor, Pa. (Aug. 30, 2008) – The Cabrini College men's soccer team (2-0) scored twice on restarts, the second time seven minutes into overtime, for a 2-1 victory over Alvernia College Saturday evening in the championship game of the Cabrini Soccer Festival. Alvernia (1-1) knotted the score at 1-1 in the 69th minute on a blistered shot of the foot of senior midfielder Tim Marcinek (Philadelphia, Pa./LaSalle).

Alvernia had a chance to open the scoring but Cabini keeper Bryan Johnson turned aside a Morgan Davidheiser (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) penalty kick. The Cavaliers broke through for the first goal of the night in the 36th minute on a throw in with Tyler Harvey getting the tally assisted by Jason Moran.

The hosts remained up a goal until Marcinek's strike with just over 20 minutes to play in regulation. The game-winner came 6:51 into the extra from on a free kick with Mike Devitt scoring assisted by Troy Allen.

Alvernia senior Richard Kessler (Reading, Pa./Reading) made six saves in net for the Crusaders. His counterpart, Johnson, stopped eight for the Cavs.

Alvernia will return to action on Friday at the Rutgers-Camden Cialella Classic.
