Center Valley, PA (Sept. 9, 2008) – The Crusader Volleyball team opened their Freedom Conference schedule with a 3-0 loss at DeSales University. Alvernia fell in straight sets; 23-25, 9-25 and 15-25 to fall to 1-5 (0-1 Freedom) on the season. DeSales improved to 4-6 (1-0 Freedom) and tied the team record for most consecutive home wins with 13. The game also saw DeSales senior Sharon Uliana break the career assist record after tallying 26 against Alvernia.
The Crusaders were led by freshman Gabrielle Albanesius (Phialdelphia, PA/Merion Mercy) who had seven attacks for a .160 attack percentage. Alvernia was also paced by the Crimi sisters, sophomore setter Leah Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) and senior Libero Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame). Leah tallied 16 assists and ten digs on the night, while Lauren posted a game-high 25 digs.
Alvernia will look to get their second win of the season as they travel to the Rutgers-Camden tournament on Sat. Sept 13th.
