Crusaders Fall 1-0 At Elizabethtown

Alvernia Battles The Blue Jays Through A Scoreless First Half Before Elizabethtown Sneaks In the Game-Winner

BOX SCORE

Elizabethtown, PA (Sept. 13, 2008) – The Crusader Men's Soccer Team fell at Elizabethtown College (1-3-1) this evening in non-conference action by a score of 1-0. In a game played under the lights on a drizzly evening, Alvernia and Elizabethtown carried a scoreless tie into the second half before the Blue Jays scored the eventual game-winner just over ten minutes into the second half.

The fist half saw the Crusaders out shoot Elizabethtown 5-4, but the Blue Jays held the decisive advantage in corner kicks with eight to Alvernia's zero. Alvernia keeper Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading) needed two saves to preserve the shut out.

In the 56th minute the Blue Jays broke the scoreless tie when Tony Pacella fired home a cross from Taylor Helsel to score the lone goal of the game. Junior forward Adam Lush (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg) led Alvernia with two shots on goal but was unable to capitalize thanks to the Blue Jays' impressive goal keeper.

With the loss the Crusaders fall to 1-4-1 and will look to get back on track Sept. 24th with a non-conference game at cross-town rival Albright College.
