BOX SCORE
Reading, PA (Sept. 16, 2008) - Alvernia needed a late goal to defeat Bryn Mawr College 1-0 this afternoon in non-conference action on Schlager Memorial field. The scoreless tied carried into the 80th minute of play before sophomore Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert's) found the back of the net for the Crusaders. With the win Alvernia improves to 4-3, while Bryn Mawr falls to 4-2.
Alvernia dominated the game right from the get-go out shooting Bryn Mawr 10-4 in the first half and held the advantage in corner kicks 3-2. Owl goalie Collette Pullion needed five saves in the first half to preserve the shut out.
The second half was more of the same with the Crusaders out shooting the Owls again, this time 18-2. In fact, the Owls managed only one shot on goal thoughout the entire game. Sippel would finally find the back of the net in the 80th minute. Sippel won the ball just past midfield before dribbling it up the field and firing off a long shot which snuck in just out of the reach of the Owl goalie. Sippel's third goal of the season would give Alvernia the 1-0 lead that they would hold onto through the remaining ten minutes. Sippel's goal marks the first time all season that Alvernia has scored after the 60 minute mark.
Alvernia will take the field again Sept. 23rd when they travel to Arcadia for a non-conference game at 4:00 pm.
