Alvernia Falls At Misericordia

Franks Scores First For Crusaders

Dallas, Pa. (Sept. 27, 2008) - Freshman Eric Franks (Reading, Pa./Exeter) scored unassisted in the 17th minute of play to give Alvernia University (2-5-1, 0-1) an early lead, but Misericordia University (8-2, 1-0) netted three unanswered goals in a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon in the men's soccer Freedom Conference opener for both schools at Mangelsdorf Field.

Misericordia scored the equalizer with eight minutes left in the first half and scored a pair in the second half for the two-goal win.  Alvernia keeper Richard Kessler (Reading, Pa./Reading) made three saves for the Crusaders while counterpart Andrwe Lloyd stopped four for the Cougars.

Misericordia held a 13-6 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.  Alvernia will host Juniata College on Tuesday in non-conference action and the first game played at Sovereign Bank Sports Park while Schlager Memorial Field on campus is transitioned to a turf field.
