Alvernia Blanked At Rutgers-Camden

First Half Hat Trick Carries Scarlet Knights

Camden, N.J. (Sept. 5, 2008) – Alvernia College surrendered a hat trick just 15 minutes into play in a 4-0 loss to Rutgers-Camden Friday evening in day one action of the 2008 Cialella Classic Men's Soccer Tournament hosted by the Scarlet Knights.

Rutgers forward Andrew Dorsey scored in the sixth, eighth, and 16th minutes and assisted on a second-half goal to help the Knights improve to 4-0 on the season. The teams will trade opponents for day two action which was pushed back to Sunday afternoon. Alvernia will play former conference foe Arcadia University at 2:00 p.m. and Rutgers-Camden will host Eastern University. Eastern whitewashed Arcadia 3-0 on Friday.

Rutgers-Camden held an edge in all statistical categories on Friday outshooting the Crusaders 15-5 and earned eight corners to two for Alvernia. Alvernia senior Richard Kessler (Reading, Pa./Reading) made a pair of saves in net for the Crusaders and Drew Gilbert (Reading, Pa./Antietam) wrapped up the last nine minutes and made one save.

After Sunday's game Alvernia will host its home opener on Wednesday playing Immaculata University. That game will be available on a free webcast through the Alvernia College website http://athletics.alvernia.edu.
