Reading, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2008) – Immaculata University spoiled the home-opener for Alvernia College with a 3-0 victory Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Physical Education Center.

Leah Crimi (Nazareth, Pa./Notre Dame) led the Crusaders (0-5) with 12 assists, five digs, and three blocks. Senior
Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, Pa./Notre Dame) led the team in digs with 10 and freshman Alyssa Solits (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) finished with a team-best six blocks. The Might Macs (1-2) had four players with five or more kills led by freshman outside hitter
Nicole Preziuso who tallied eight.
IU posted close wins in all three games opening with a 25-21 win and taking a 26-24 win in game two before closing with another 25-21 count. Alvernia earned a side out in game two facing game point and pulled within three at 24-21. Freshman Gabrelle Albanesius (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) then served three straight points to knot the score at 24-all, but Immaculata took the ball back on a side out and went on to with the game on Preziuso's serve.
Alvernia will jump right into the Freedom Conference schedule next Tuesday when it heads to DeSales University for a 7:00 p.m. match.
