Alvernia Suffers Their Second Overtime Loss In Four Games

Crusaders Fall To Arcadia 2-1 In Overtime

Camden, NJ (Sept. 7, 2008) - The Alvernia's Men's Soccer team suffered their second overtime loss in their first four games of the season with a 2-1 overtime loss to Arcadia University this afternoon at the Rutgers-Camden Tournament.  With the loss the Crusaders fall to 1-3 while Arcadia improves to 2-2.

After a scoreless first half where Alvernia out shot the Knights from Arcadia 11-8 and had five corner kicks to Arcadia's zero it was the Knights whole finally broke the scoreless tie.  Joe Clementi found the back of the net on a direct kick in the 51st minute that he fired off from the left side into the right side of the net.  

The Crusaders would tie the game in the 66th minute when senior All-Tournament selection David Schaeffer (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) beat the Arcadia goalkeeper to even the score at one.  The second half saw the Crusaders once again out shoot the Knights, this time 11-4 including four out of the final five shots in regulation.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the first overtime forcing double overtime.  It was Ethan Armstrong who finally put the game away with a shot from 25 yards out into the right side of the net to give Arcadia the 2-1 double overtime victory.

Alvernia will now look ahead to their Sept. 10th home opener against Immaculata University at 4:00 pm.
