Reading, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2009) - Widener University (5-6-2, 2-1) scored just over a minute into the second half and made it stand as the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Alvernia University (3-9, 0-3) Tuesday evening in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer action at Widener.

Neither team found the back of the net over the first 45 minutes with both goalies needing just a pair of saves each to send the game to the break tied at 0-0.

The Pride then connected early in the second when Rich Romano scored his first goal of the season 61 seconds after the restart.

Alvernia sophomore Drew Gilbert (Reading, Pa./Antietam) made five stops in net for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders return to action Saturday when they host Lycoming as part of a women's and men's soccer doubleheader.
