Crusaders Lose Battle With Albright

Alvernia Falls 1-0 In Conference Match-Up

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (October 20, 2009) - The Crusader Women's Soccer team fell to visiting Albright College (7-7-2, 2-2 Commonwealth) by a score of 1-0 this evening in Commonwealth Conference action at Schlager Memorial Field.  Alvernia (3-14, 0-5 Commonwealth) was even with the visiting Lions through the first half, but a second half goal would be the decider.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with both teams managing three shots apiece.  The Lions earned three penalty corners in the first half, while Alvernia did not manage any.  A single save from Lion goalie Olivia Giuliano was all that was needed to keep the game scoreless through halftime.

Albright would break the scoreless tie in the 58th minute when Heather Fitzgerald split the Crusader defense to manage a quick breakaway where she would fire a shot right past Crusader goalie #Kirsten Kelley# (Kirkwood, Pa./Bishop Shanahan).  This was sophomore Fitzgerald's first goal of the season.

Alvernia will face defending NCAA Division III National Champion when they travel to Messiah for a conference game Sat. Oct. 24th at 12:00pm.
