Reading, Pa. (September 17, 2009) - The Alvernia Women's Soccer team (2-5) scored twice in the first six minutes of the game, and again in the 69th minute while firing off 21 shots to defeat visiting Valley Forge Christian College (2-3-1) by a score of 3-0 this afternoon in non-conference action.
The Crusaders got things rolling less than a minute into the game when Sophomore Amy Mesce (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) sent a perfect cross to senior Kate McCaffrey (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) who quickly shot it past the diving VFCC goalie for her second goal of the season. Alvernia would strike again five minutes later when midfielder Felicia Sippel (Cinaaminson, NJ/St. Hubert) fed sophomore Sara Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) who would connect for her first goal of the season. Alvernia would tally their third goal of the game in the 69th minute thanks to a goal from Kate Wimberg (Galloway, NJ/Sacred Heart).
The Crusaders out shot VFCC 21-2 and earned an impressive 17 corner kicks to VFCC's zero.
Alvernia will return to action Saturday afternoon at 2:00pm with another home non-conference game against Catholic University.
