Kelley Saves Nine, Crusaders Fall To Catholic

Cardinals Remain Undefeated

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 19 2009) - Alvernia University (2-6) seemed headed for overtime with undefeated Catholic University (7-0) on Saturday afternoon holding the Cardinals off the board for nearly 75 minutes, but the Red and White offense struck twice in the final 15 minutes giving Catholic a 2-0 win in non-conference women's soccer action at Alvernia.

Alvernia junior Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) finished the day with nine saves, a few of them spectacular, to keep the Cardinals at bay.  Meanwhile the Crusader offense put together a few pushes, but couldn't put a shot on net against Amanda Cowan, the Catholic netminder.

Still locked in a scoreless tie Catholic mounted a quick counter after an Alvernia clear.  The ball came to Kelly Donnelly who slid a pass to her right to Courtney Orgill who burried her eighth of the season just passed the outstretched arm of a diving Kelley.

With the clock ticking under five minutes the Crusaders pushed the midfield forward in an attempt the find the game-tying goal, but it didn't come and instead it was Donnelly who put away her second of the year to close the scoring.

Alvernia will travel to York College on Monday for a non-conference tilt with the Spartans.
