#1 Messiah Tops Alvernia

Landis Leads Crusaders With Three Shots

Grantham, Pa. (Sept. 26, 2009) - Top-ranked Messiah College (8-0, 1-0) got scoring from six different players in a 7-0 win over Alvernia University (4-3, 0-1) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference field hockey action at Messiah.

The Falcons scored the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute and took a 3-0 lead into the half. The hosts scored twice in the first five minutes of the second half and pulled back scoring the final goal of the game on a penalty stroke in the 69th minute.

Alvernia sophomore Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) led the Crusaders with three shots on the day. Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) made seven saves for Alvernia.

The Crusaders return home for non-conference action next Tuesday against William Paterson.
