Alvernia Defeats Lebanon Valley 3-0, Sets New Record For Wins

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Oct.9, 2010)
- The Alvernia Women's Soccer (10-2-2, 1-1 Comm.) set a team record for wins, with ten, as they defeated visiting Lebanon Valley College (7-5-1, 0-1 Comm.) 3-0 this afternoon in Commonwealth Conference action at Schlager Memorial Field. The Crusader's ten wins marks the first time that the Women's Soccer team has hit double digits in wins, with the next closet being the 2000 squad with nine wins.

Alvernia took the prompt 1-0 lead in the fifth minute of play as Sara Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) found a mis-hit cross from a Dutchmen defender and managed to corral it and redirect it past the goalkeeper for her first goal of the season. The remainder of the first half saw the Crusaders fire off ten shots to Lebanon Valley's five and hold the 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. The Dutchmen's stingy defense would hold the score at 1-0 through halftime.

Just over ten minutes into the second half Rachel Gimber (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) gave Alvernia an insurance goal as she tracked down a rebound off the goalie and drilled a shot to the lower left of the net for what was her first goal of the season. Felicia Sippel (Cinnaminson, NJ/St. Hubert) netted Alvernia's third goal in the 85th minute as she found the unguarded ball in front of the net and shot it upper left for her second goal of the season.

Alvernia out shot Lebanon Valley 19-11 and held the slight 5-3 corner kick advantage. The Crusaders will return to action October 13th when they travel to Albright College for a 7pm Commonwealth Conference game.
