Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, N.J./Bishop Shanahan) was largely untested in the Crusaders' (11-2-2, 2-0-1) 1-0 victory over Albright College (7-5-3, 0-2-1) Wednesday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's soccer action at Shirk Stadium.
It was the second straight 1-0 soccer victory for Alvernia at Albright with the men's team earning a regulation win just an evening ago.
Alvernia dominated the play on Wednesday with a 13-3 advantage in shots during regulation, but couldn't get one past Albright keeper Olivia Giuliano. The Crusaders peppered the Albright net with six more shots in 10 minutes over overtime play finally breaking through when junior
Sara Gimber (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) sent Mesce in for her 10th of the season.
Alvernia finished with a 19-3 advantage in shots. Giuliano made a dozen saves to give the Lions a chance.
Kelley is on a streak of more than 300 minutes of shutout soccer in net for the Crusaders. She pulled within one of the season record for shutouts with her seventh.
Alvernia, regionally ranked for the first time in team history, snapped a nine-game winless streak against Albright. Only one game in the last 10 has been decided by more than one goal.
The Crusaders continue the conference schedule at Lycoming on Saturday.
