Crusaders Can't Manage Much Offense Against The Falcons

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 19, 2010) - #1 ranked Messiah College (14-0, 4-0 Comm.) remained undefeated as they won 3-0 over Alvernia University (11-3-3, 2-1-2 Comm.) this evening in Commonwealth Conference action on Schlager Memorial Field. 

The visiting Falcons got on the board just eight minutes into the game when Leah Sipe was assisted by Amanda Naeher on her third goal of the season.  Just over three minutes later, Messiah took the 2-0 lead on Corrine Wulf's tenth goal of the season.  The score remained 2-0 in favor of Messiah through the remainder of the first half as Alvernia was outshot 6-0.

The second half saw Alvernia battle back with three shots of the own, but Messiah netted another insurance goal at 75:41 as Olivia Scott was assisted by Alicia Frey.  The Falcons held the 8-3 advantage in shots, and earned three corner kicks to Alvernia's none. 

Crusader goalie Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) had seven saves on the night to hold Messiah to three goals or less for just the fifth time this season.  Alvernia returns to action with a home game against Widener this Saturday at 1:30pm.
