Etown's Late Goal Proves A Winner

Gilbert Saves Nine For Alvernia

Elizabethtown, Pa. (Oct. 2, 2010) - Elizabethtown College (6-1-2, 1-0) scored a game-winner with seven minutes left in regulation in a 2-1 win over Alvernia University (6-3-1, 0-1) Saturday evening in Commonwealth Conference men's soccer action at Etown.

The Crusaders opened the scoring on an Eric Franks (Reading, Pa./Exeter) goal just three minutes into the second half.  Alvernia held a 1-0 lead into the 66th minute until the Blue Jays knotted the score at 1-1 on a header.  They score again 20 minutes later followin a scrum in front of the Alvernia net for the winner.

The Jays had a 26-3 advantage in shots and didn't record a save.  Alvernia keeper Drew Gilbert (Reading, Pa./Antietam) made nine saves in net for the Crusaders.

Alvernia will next play a non-conference game at Richard Stockton on Wednesday.
