Harrisburg Squeaks Out 3-2 Win Over Alvernia

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 9, 2010) - Penn State-Harrisburg (7-12) scored a 15-13 win in the fifth and deciding set of a 3-2 win over Alvernia University (4-11) Saturday afternoon in the opening match of the Alvernia Tri-Match at the Physical Education Center.

The Crusaders forced the fifth set with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.  Alvernia won the second and fourth sets.

Harrisburg came out strong with a 25-15 win in the opening set, but Alvernia responded with a great start in the second set and held the lead throughout in a 25-17 win to even the match.  Harrisburg then answered with a 25-19 win in the third set.

Alvernia freshman Kristen Rupp (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) led the Crusaders with 12 kills.  Tori Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) had 32 assists and Toni Maurer (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) had a team-high 16 digs.

Alvernia will finish the tri-match hosting Penn State-Alto at 5:00 p.m.
