Crusaders Host #5 Cabrini In First ECAC Appearance

Quarterfinal Action Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at Alvernia

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 8, 2010) - The Alvernia University women's soccer team continues to navigate uncharted waters as the first ever postseason continues with a quarterfinal home game in the ECAC South Region Championships.  The Crusaders -- seeded fourth -- host #5 Cabrini College Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m.

Having long since established a record for wins in a season the Crusaders look to add to that against a familiar foe.  Wednesday's game will be the 12th between the two schools with Cabrini holding a 7-2-2 edge in the previous 11.  They haven't met since back to back ties in 2006 and 2007.

Alvernia posted a 12-5-4 mark in the regular season and entered its first postseason appearance last week after a 2-2-3 record in Commonwealth Conference play.  The Crusaders ran into a seasoned veteran in national #1 Messiah College in the conference semifinals falling 6-0 in the postseason opener.

The Crusaders are led by junior forward Amy Mesce (Pittsford, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) who has netted 12 goals.  Senior goalie Kirsten Kelley (Kirkwood, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) broke school records for shutouts in a season with nine this year and enters the ECAC game with a goals against average of 0.89.

Cabrini, the 2009 Colonial States Athletic Conference champ, ended the bid to repeat in the semifinals when Immaculata advanced in penalty kicks.  The Cavaliers are led by Kara Hinkelmon who has nine goals this season.
