EJ Logan (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and senior
Morgan Davidheiser (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) netted a pair of goals each to lead Alvernia University to a 5-0 win over Penn State-Berks in non-conference men's soccer action at Berks.
Junior
Eric Franks (Reading, Pa./Exeter) notched the other goal for the Crusaders who have now shutout Berks in two straight season openers.
Alvernia pounded the Berks defensive zone in the first half with opportunity after opportunity, but only came away with a 1-0 halftime lead after Logan's header on a corner serve from Franks. Berks keeper Jonathan Martin made three saves in the opening half, but denied several other chances.
Logan netted his second of the game in the 54th minute assisted by
Kyle Martyn (Media, Pa./Penncrest) and Franks put the Crusaders up 3-0 in the 58th minute. The scoring continued fast and furious with Davidheiser knocking home his first of the game in the 60th minute and the senior striker made it 5-0 just over a minute later.
Alvernia split time in net between Benjamin Diller (Etters, Pa./Red Land) and
Drew Gilbert (Reading, Pa./Antietam) who combined for three saves in the shutout.
The Crusaders open the home schedule with a kick off tournament this weekend and will face Wesley College on Saturday night at 7:30. Eastern University and Susquehanna University will open the event Saturday at 5:00.
