Alvernia Opens With Three Set Win At Keystone

Albanesius Leads Team With 10 Kills

LaPlumme, Pa. (Sept. 1, 2010) - Junior outside hitter Gabrielle Albanesius (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) powered down a match-high 10 kills to lead Alvernia University (1-0) to a 3-0 win at Keystone College (0-1) Wednesday evening in non-conference volleyball action.

The Crusaders took the opening set 25-23 before cruising to more comfortable 25-11 and 25-16 wins in sets two and three. 

Sophomore setter Tori Beck (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) handed out 26 assists and fellow newcomers Antoinette Maurer (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Kristen Rupp (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) led the defensive efforts with 12 and 11 digs respectively.

Four players in the Alvernia lineup recorded aces in the match led by junior middle Angela Altemose (Philadelphia, Pa./Nativity BVM) who totaled three.

Alvernia returns to action this weekend at the Moravian College Invitational playing Wilkes and Swarthmore on Friday.
